Violet has been studying Hawaiian hula since 2000. She began dancing and performing hula in Las Vegas, Nevada with the Kuuipo Dancers under the direction of Jackie Kaanoi.

In 2002, Violet and her husband, Bill, moved to The Big Island of Hawaii. In Hawaii, Violet studied hula under some of the world's leading hula instructors, with her main teacher being Master Kumu Hula Johnny Lum Ho. Some of the other Kumu Hula's that Violet studied under were: Kawelo Kong Kee, Pi'ilani Kawaloa, Iwalani Woo-O'Brien and Alberta Nicholas.

While in Hawaii, Violet was fortunate enough to attend the 2005 World Hula Conference on Maui where she was able to expand her knowledge and understanding of hula as an art form and its place in Hawaiian culture. She performed and competed with several other Hawaiian hula groups while living in Hawaii. Violet was also chosen to be the soloist for one of her hula halaus (school) at the annual Kapuna (Senior) Hula Festival in Kailua-Kona in the year 2007.

In the year 2008, Violet moved back to the mainland, with her husband, Bill, and settled in The Villages, Florida. Violet now teaches hula in The Villages and shares her knowledge and love of the hula with her students there. Since moving to The Villages, Violet has started her own performing hula group -- Aloha 'O Ka Hula Dance Troupe. She also teaches hula at the Lifelong Learning College.
